THE ECOWAS COMMON EXTERNAL TARRIF

The 29th Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government held in Niamey, Niger, on January 12, 2006, adopted the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, (ECOWAS CET) to consolidate the free trade area and to strengthen the free movement of people and goods. According to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, "with the ECOWAS CET in place, our region  has moved a step closer to the establishment of a common market, an objective which is stated in the Revised Treaty of the Community and mush desired by the founding fathers of our institution since its in 1975.” 

The Borderless Alliance provides stakeholders, and particularly its members, with a table of summary of the ECOWAS CET presented in the three official languages of the Community. The architecture of the ECOWAS CET adopted is as follows:
