There were also other personalities, institutions and structures (public and private) from the transport sector present.
The workshop, presented by Mr. Jonas LAGO, President of the National Committee of the Borderless Alliance, had as its theme, “Efficient operational policies for the competitiveness of Ivorian ports and corridors “. The purpose of this meeting was to revisit the procedures, the operation of the Ivorian ports and corridors in order to identify the problems to apply better strategies to boost the transport sector in Côte d’Ivoire.
The event featured three panels, moderated by an international consultant on maritime, port and logistics, Dr. Djedje Gnakalé, who encouraged panelists to look at the “big picture” during their interventions, beyond logistics and corridor competitiveness, making reference to the key notion of logistics hubs.
It is in this perspective that they held 4 panel discussions which are: thestateof transit corridors in Côte d’Ivoire, the development of port infrastructures and commercial strategies, the fluidity of hinterland connectivity to ports and the modernization of transit procedures. In each panel, the problems were identified and then, subsequently, facilitation actions and recommendations were also proposed.
Following the presentations and engagements with participants, recommendations were made to key trade and transport stakeholders in Cote d’Ivoire, including the Government, Customs administration and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Observatory for transport Fluidity, Cote d’Ivoire Shippers Council and Scanning Systems.
The successful implementation of these recommendations will go a long way in transforming the Northern and South-Western Ivorian corridors, placing the ports of Abidjan and San Pedro among the most competitive in the sub-region. La mise en œuvre effective des recommandations permettra de faire des corridors nord et sud-ouest nord ivoirien, de véritables corridors de transit, et rendre les ports d’Abidjan et de San Pedro très compétitifs de la sous-région
In conclusion, Mr. Jonas Lago also stressed that the relevance of the contributions of the various speakers present at the workshop will help to better authorities of our community space and particularly those of Côte d’Ivoire for appropriate decision-making.
